Goguryeo, the dynasty that ruled Korea from 918 to 1392, produced inlaid celadon ceremics of unexcelled beauty and the Tripitaka Koreana, the world's most comprehensive compilation of Buddhist scupltures, and some 80,000 woodblocks to print it. It also developed the world's first movable metal printing type, some 200 years before it was developed in the West. Joseon, which ruled Korea from 1392 to 1910, invented the world's first rain gauge in 1441 and the ironclad battleship as well as one of the most scientific alphabets and writing system in the world.
